Applications for First IMA AsiaPac Student Case Competition Now Open

SINGAPORE, Dec. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- IMA[1]® (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on the advancement of the management accounting profession, is accepting entries for the first edition of its 2021 AsiaPac Student Case Competition[2] now through 31 January 2021. University students across the Asia Pacific are invited to take part in this challenging and highly rewarding competition.

Students looking to demonstrate their analytical skills, strategic foresight, and creativity, can join as individual or in teams of three to five members to formulate their cases and in turn, present their work to a panel of management accounting experts. IMA will group the individual students from the same institution/universities.

Participants will be given the opportunity to analyze the business case, "Should Star Textiles Cut Out The Intermediaries?[3]" to develop cutting edge recommendations and plans for the proposed challenge using the skills they learned at university. The competition focuses on topical accounting and finance problems which encourage students to apply their technical and theoretical skills in a practical setting. Teams looking to make the cut for this round will need to submit applications by 5 March 2021.

"Participating in this competition provides a valuable experience for the students, which gives them the opportunity to think critically and strategically through the business case and apply their knowledge," said Dr. Josh Heniro, Senior Director of Southeast Asia and Australasia Operations at IMA. "In addition to helping students develop and strengthen their financial and accounting skills, it also polishes their presentation skills as qualifying teams are required to pitch their solutions to key regional industry leaders. Through this case competition and our collaborative and continuous partnership with the universities, we will empower and enable the students of today to kickstart their careers within the accounting profession and become future-ready."

IMA will select four teams to present virtually at the Asia Pacific finals, and award the top three teams some exciting prizes[4]. The four teams will each receive a plaque, which will be sent to their university. Each selected team will be required to present their case analysis solutions in person and be prepared to defend their ideas and answer any additional questions the judges might have.

The first-place winning team from the Asia Pacific finals, accompanied by faculty advisor, will go on to present at the Grand Finals in Dubai, U.A.E., to compete against other regional winners from Europe, India, and the Middle East. Also, the grand prize includes a US$500 Amazon gift card for each team member, a U.S. CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) scholarship[5], a networking session with IMA's President and CEO Jeff Thomson, and much more.
