New mobile base station brings better mobile connectivity in Wreck Bay

Residents and visitors at Wreck Bay are now enjoying improved mobile coverage and connectivity, with the recent construction of a Telstra mobile base station as part of the Improving Mobile Coverage Round (IMCR) of the Australian Government funding program.

Regional Engagement Manager Christina Cawkell said the new mobile base station would create new Telstra 4G & 5G coverage and connectivity in the Wreck Bay village and help reduce poor mobile connectivity in the region.

“We know the community’s been looking forward to this new mobile site and I’m pleased to say we’ve completed construction and been able to bring this site on-air,” Ms Cawkell said.

“Co-investment programs such as this, where carriers like Telstra and the government work together to share the cost in bringing new connectivity in regional and rural locations, are really important in helping deliver great connectivity outcomes and enabling all Australians to participate fully in the digital economy,” she said.

“We know how important mobile connectivity is today. This new site not only helps reduce poor mobile connectivity in this area, it will also improve capacity and 4G coverage and provide additional triple zero connectivity for users on other mobile networks in times of emergency.”

Building this new site, in partnership with the Australian Government, shows Telstra is committed to delivering vital infrastructure and upgrades to boost connectivity through this area,” said Ms Cawkell.

Member for Fenner, Andrew Leigh MP said “the Albanese Government is improving mobile coverage in the Jervis Bay Territory because reliable connectivity helps communities stay safe, stay connected and take part in the modern economy. For Wreck Bay residents and visitors, this new tower means stronger coverage for everyday calls and messages, better access during emergencies, and a more dependable connection to work, education and services.”

“Regional communities deserve the same digital opportunities as people in our major cities. This partnership with Telstra is helping close coverage gaps and strengthen connectivity in one of Australia’s most beautiful coastal communities,” he said.

Through a range of co-investment programs, Telstra has delivered or is in the process of delivering over 2,000 new or upgraded mobiles sites, contributing more than $540M to these programs.

Telstra is Australia’s largest mobile network with over 12,000 mobile base stations nationally, over 2000 sites more than any other mobile network.
