SECURITY GUARD TYPES AND WHAT THEY DO

  • Written by Business Daily Media

Although the security industry provides a wide range of services, many people are unaware
of how vital these services are for their personal or professional needs. When searching for various security guard service providers in your area, remember that multiple options may be available to match your specific wants or goals! Here are just a few of the many different kinds of security guards and the services they offer:

Government security guards on contract

Government agencies often employ armed and well-trained security personnel. The purpose of deploying these security personnel is to safeguard, defend, and protect public resources and personnel. These security officers take specific security courses enabling them to work in various environments. Their primary duty is to protect a particular government location, like a courthouse or a military command center. They might be required to protect people and property in high-risk situations.

Residential security guards

Officers in charge of residential security keep an eye on and secure single-family houses, apartment complexes, and townhomes. They also spot criminal activities and hold them until law enforcement officials arrive. These security guards also examine visitor data and monitor visitor behavior to keep a neighborhood safe. These specialists may also coordinate with and direct emergency response vehicles to places of emergencies.

Armed security officers

Armed security personnel patrol premises to stop unlawful access and suspicious behavior. They also de-escalate events by employing tactics for handling conflicts amicably and other security measures. Armed security guards also respond to reported occurrences, take preventative action to safeguard those inside a facility, and keep shift records to record daily activity. These experts also attend security training sessions and coordinate emergency response actions with law enforcement officers, among other tasks.

Unarmed security guards

Unarmed security guards do not possess firearms or other weapons. However, they promptly and effectively react to threats, police every area, monitor the security systems, and patrol every area of the premises they guard. Even though the guards are unarmed, their presence is a deterrent to criminals and trespassers. The roles of an unarmed security guard include general crime prevention, patrolling, access control, crowd control, and policy enforcement. More than 80% of security workers worldwide perform unarmed security duties.

Bodyguards

Bodyguards or personal security professionals offer their clients protection from bodily harm. They recognize and lessen potential risks to their clients by either getting in the way of the danger or by putting in place security procedures. Some personal security guards also search their clientsbelongings, including their cars, luggage, and other personal stuff, for any questionable materials. Personal security officers can also offer transportation services for clients' safe arrival at various destinations.

Event security personnel

Event security guards generally control crowd control and uphold order at concerts, athletic events, and business conferences. An event security guard's responsibilities include ensuring that guests are only in assigned places and not carrying prohibited items into the venue. They may be called upon to defuse physical altercations when there is a lot of alcohol present or when emotions are high.

Conclusion

Different types of security officers undergo various training relevant to their security areas.
