Intium supports Australia’s renewable energy transition with new senior appointments

Babu Kumar joins as General Manager of Engineering and Delivery, bringing nearly three decades of experience to Australia’s clean energy transition

Intium, a new Australian player providing innovative energy solutions, has announced the expansion of its leadership team, with the appointment of Babu Kumar as General Manager of Engineering and Delivery.

At Intium, Kumar will oversee technical strategy and development, supporting clients, project delivery teams and operations to drive technological innovation and speed to market.

With over 27 years of experience in engineering, operations, and project leadership, Kumar has consistently driven change across a range of industries including with Arcadis, Endeavour Energy, UGL and most recently, Transgrid, where he held a leadership role in the Major Projects group. Kumar’s wealth of knowledge and experience in establishing design and engineering capabilities to deliver large-scale projects will be integral in helping Intium to transform the clean energy sector.

“I am thrilled to join Intium and support the company’s mission to transform Australia's renewable energy sector,” said Babu Kumar. “I look forward to bringing my expertise to build on the team’s progress and offer innovative long-term energy solutions to key industries helping to build our country’s future.”

With over 150 years of combined team experience in complex and emerging energy services, Intium has emerged as a new player doing things differently. The company was incorporated in January 2023, and offers industry leading expertise across major network connections, electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI), and electrification — to drive sustainable value that benefits businesses, communities, consumers and the energy industry at large. Intium's team of experts is focused on shortening deployment timelines to deliver renewable projects faster and in a socially responsible way, without compromising quality or safety.

Nathan Rhodes, Intium’s Executive General Manager, has appointed multiple senior roles in the company’s first 18 months of operation. Beyond Kumar, Intium has welcomed Ian Armstrong leading Business Development, Karie James leading Business Improvement and Joshua Thomas leading EVCI — all bringing decades of global and local industry experience.

“Our mission is to transform Australia for a clean energy future — in a cost-effective, innovative and reliable way that ensures speed to market. Having the right people on our team is vital to achieving this and I am thrilled to be building an exceptional team with the expertise and know-how to accelerate Australia’s clean energy future,” said Nathan Rhodes. “Our team is growing at speed to bring the greatest impact to our clients, communities, consumers and the industry.”

Intium has also cultivated delivery partnerships with key global and local industry leaders and suppliers to implement best practices across resource management, grid connections, distributions solutions and more. Alongside a new strategic partner, Intium has successfully secured its first roll out of electric vehicle charging bays in Regional NSW; with the design, installation and commissioning of charging infrastructure for an Electricity Distribution company depot site in Northern NSW, followed by a prioritised and fit-for-purpose design, installation and commissioning across other regional NSW depot locations.

With Australia’s ambitious 2030 targets and 2050 net zero goals, businesses like Intium are essential in supporting the shift from coal-power to renewable energy; specifically doing so through the rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI). Intium will continue to focus on the implementation of new strategies and methodologies to expedite the deployment of energy solutions for approved renewable projects, so Australia can get closer to meeting its goals on time.
