Four Tips for Camping in a Motor Home

  • Written by News Feature Team

If you like the idea of taking a holiday in the great outdoors and camping, but the idea of sleeping on the ground doesn’t appeal to you, then you should consider hiring a motor home. You will get to enjoy camping in some of the most beautiful areas of the country without 'roughing it.' Here are four tips for taking a camping holiday in a motor home.

Plan Your Trip

Just as you would on any other holiday, you need to plan where and when you are going. This is important because during certain times of the year, it can be difficult to hire a motor home, as they are quickly becoming a popular holiday option for both tourists and locals. Select your destination and route, and when you are ready to leave, alert friends or family to your itinerary, especially if you are travelling to see them. They will know when to expect you. In case you have trouble on the road, they can alert authorities if you do not show up or notify them of changes to your plan.

Be Flexible

Although you will want to have a planned itinerary for your holiday, you shouldn’t be too rigid in sticking to it. Allow yourself some time to take side trips if you are driving across the country, so you don’t miss any of the great places you will find on the open road. If you do decide to go off on a side excursion, alert someone to your plans in case there isn’t any mobile service where you are going, so they don’t worry about you.

Decide on a Camping Ground or Caravan Park

Although there are benefits to staying in either location, you need to consider what facilities you will need during your holiday. If you decide to camp in a national park or in a more remote area, you will need to find facilities to empty the toilet and refill your water tanks in order to enjoy a clean, fresh lavatory during your holiday. If you stay in caravan parks, you will have the ability to tend to the motor home, as well as have some amenities like swimming pools and outdoor electric outlets to recharge your vehicle available for your use.

Book Early

Whether it is for a motor home rental or reserving space at a camp site, you need to book your reservations early during peak holiday seasons. From April to October is the peak season for camping, so you will want to make sure you have a spot in a camp ground or a caravan park each night you plan to spend in one. In order to hire the size motor home that you will need, you will want to reserve one early before they are all taken for the season.

Enjoy your holiday, because a motor home is a great way to travel with friends or your family. It will give you time to bond and enjoy the sights you see together.
