Applications open for 2025 John Monash Scholarships: A gateway to global leadership

The General Sir John Monash Foundation has opened applications for its prestigious John Monash Scholarships Program, which aims to find and empower Australia’s next generation of global leaders.

These scholarships support outstanding Australians by providing them with the resources to pursue postgraduate studies at leading universities around the world, further enhancing their skills and international networks for Australia’s long-term benefit.Foundation CEO Paul Ramadge

More than 260 Australians have been awarded prestigious scholarships over the past 20 years across a range of fields, including medicine, health, the arts, engineering, business, law, mathematics, science and Indigenous affairs. Scholars can choose to study at any university outside of Australia, and popular academic institutions include the University of Oxford, Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, MIT, Stanford University and Johns Hopkins University.

Foundation CEO Paul Ramadge said: “The John Monash Scholarships are not just financial aid but investments in Australia’s future leadership. By enabling our brightest talents to learn from the best in the world, we create a catalyst for innovation and positive change that will resonate throughout our society.

“The heart of the Foundation's mission is nation-building. We are striving to build a community of Scholars, now numbering 264, who have become a formidable force for good – a talent bank of leaders who will guide our country forward.”

Eligibility for the scholarship is extended to Australian citizens who have completed or are nearing completion of a degree from an Australian university. Candidates must be preparing to commence their postgraduate studies overseas in the upcoming calendar year. They must demonstrate how their study plans will contribute to their field and Australian society.

Chair of the Foundation Jillian Segal AO added: “Our scholars are chosen for their potential to drive progress and foster connections across borders. They exemplify excellence, leadership and a commitment to community service. Through the John Monash Scholarships, we recognise their achievements and support their professional journey at every step.”

The selection criteria for the John Monash Scholarship focus on academic and professional excellence, demonstrated leadership, and a proven commitment to contributing positively to society. Successful applicants will receive substantial financial support of up to AUD 240,000 over three years, alongside additional benefits such as exclusive access to the John Monash Foundation Leadership Academy and its network of Scholars across the globe.

Applications for the John Monash Scholarships open on May 1, 2024, and close on July 1, 2024, at 5pm AEST. Interested candidates can apply online and are encouraged to articulate the relevance of their chosen study program and destination in their applications.
