TEN13 launches global Maverick program to give investors access to international unicorns

The venture syndicate welcomes some of ANZ’s most prolific angel investors, including Brendan Hill, Side Stage Ventures and Harry Uffindell to its ranks

TEN13, Australia's fastest growing venture syndicate, today announced the launch of its Maverick program, providing investors with access to the highest quality investment opportunities in Australia and beyond. TEN13’s carefully selected angels, or ‘Mavericks’ will identify investment opportunities in startups from around the globe, before sharing deal flow from the most disruptive ventures with TEN13’s wider syndicate of 500+ sophisticated investors.

TEN13 has given wings to a small but mighty team of founding Mavericks, including Australian serial entrepreneur Brendan Hill, Kiwi-born founder-turn-operator Harrison Uffindell, and founder-led investment syndicate Side Stage Ventures. The Mavericks’ multi-continental investment experience spans decades and boasts success stories like Mr Yum, Calm, and Carted. The trio have already brought Australian industry darlings Delegate Connect, Layer, QSIC, Heaps Normal, Africa’s PayHippo and Kippa, and LATAM’s most successful Series A fundraisers, Treinta, to the table, catapulting the business towards its goal of securing $100M funds under management in the next year.

Through the backing of TEN13’s hundreds-strong investor network, the Maverick program will provide well connected and well researched angel investors with the capital necessary to make significant investments into traditionally inaccessible deals and build their track record as emerging venture managers. This alternative approach also provides TEN13’s investors with access to wider deal flow beyond their home country to increasingly disruptive markets like APAC, LATAM and Africa.

Stew Glynn, Managing Partner & Co-Founder at TEN13, which has recently raised $70 million to support 32 startups, said “Despite the bear market, we have continued to deliver high quality, high-yielding investment opportunities to our growing network of investors. By combining the business’ network-based investing syndicate and back-end infrastructure with an intimate network of angel investors, our Mavericks program will enable unfettered access to a new world of investment opportunities. The momentum we have already seen is testament not only to the business’ agility to scale and break into new markets, but also to the extraordinary level of expertise and guidance provided by our team of Mavericks, who we are tremendously excited to welcome to TEN13.”

One-click checkout startup and home-grown benefactor of TEN13’s Maverick program, Instant, was discovered by Brendan Hill. The business is gathering amazing traction in the eCommerce payments category and is well-known for its young, ambitious founder Liam Millward. They raised their $2.2m pre-Seed round from leading investors such as Blackbird Ventures, Reinventure, and Larry Diamond (Zip).

With 20 startup investments under his belt in the same number of months, NZ-born angel investor Harrison Uffindell is raring to take TEN13’s portfolio to new heights. As a former senior leader at Airbnb Australia, Harrison has significant experience launching and expanding startups in APAC, including in his current role of SVP Operations & People at NZ-based startup, Partly.

He has leveraged that experience into sourcing and finding the best angel investment opportunities personally, and now as a ‘solo-capitalist’ for TEN13. “No angel investment program provides the opportunity to invest in international prodigies as the Maverick program does. With technology advancing at a never-before-seen rate, the question is not if the next Google or Canva is waiting around the corner, it’s where. I am excited to work with TEN13 to comb emerging markets like APAC, LATAM and Africa for the next unicorn, and take Australian and New Zealand investors on an international investment journey.“ Harrison said.
