Homefire - How You Can Combat Rising Gas Prices this Winter

Energy bills have been very high for a long time now and, unfortunately, the increases in gas prices appear like they will continue for many up and down the UK.

We all want to keep our utility bills as low as possible, but how can this be done given the current external climate we’re facing?

This article will examine ways you can reduce your bills to ease your financial burden while keeping your home warm.

The background on gas prices

As we’ve seen for the best part of two years, gas and electricity prices have risen to levels we’ve never seen before. The volatility of the energy market has put a strain on the budgets of millions across the UK and further afield.

The reasons for these rises are complex but it’s something households have had to either manage or find alternative ways of heating their homes. More worrying for people is that, in the new year, annual bills could rise by £700 per household.

Typical household bills are expected to rise by around 5% as the cap is increased to £1,928 in January 2024, we want to present you with other ways to heat your residence in trying times.

People are actively seeking different heat supplies and a wood burner proves to be a viable option for many.

Wood-burning instead of gas

What hasn’t increased at even close to the same rate is wood as a fuel source. You could save 1p per kWh when burning wood instead of using mains gas, possibly leading to around a 10% reduction in your energy bills overall.

If you already have a wood-burning stove or fireplace in your home, the decision to use this over your gas supply seems like a no-brainer right now. Installing a wood-burning device incurs an initial cost that would need to be considered. In the long run, it could be worthwhile doing so to eventually make savings. However, gas boilers are also costly to install.

There is also evidence to suggest that wood burners increase the overall value of a property, another long-term decision that could prove financially savvy if you decide to sell. You should also consider the fact that, when you purchase a bulk order of kiln-dried wood, you could make further savings.

Kiln-dried wood is exceptionally efficient and won’t emit large amounts of smoke, heating everybody inside and not harming them either. This type of wood is renewable too, so when you opt for it over gas, you’ll be doing your bit for the planet. If you have a fireplace in your home, it makes a lot of sense to use it this winter.

Savings can be made to help the pressures facing families this winter and Homefire has a range of kiln-dried wood, and other products available to heat your house. Explore our website today to discover more.
