Industry expert calls on businesses to do more to green up office operations

Eco-friendly advanced print technology: green tech that doesn’t compromise on efficiency and quality

With staff returning to offices across the country, printers are once again whirling through reams of paper and ink.

According to James Leon, a leading and highly respected business owner and expert in workplace printing and copying technology and systems, while most businesses try to be as green as possible, there is still more room for improvement.

“Printers and photocopiers are key pieces of office equipment essential for most business operations. In addition to using recycled paper, there are things businesses can do to achieve higher levels of sustainability.”

James Leon, founder of leading Australian B2B printer supplier and print solutions company, Printech, said that offices around Australia should take a step further and invest in eco-friendly printers and copiers. Since 2010, Leon’s company has been supplying copiers, printers and printing solutions to offices and businesses across the country.

Leon has provided tips on how to go green in the office with printers and copiers.

All in one printers and copiers

“All-in-one printers are multi-functional printers that do multiple jobs like printing, photocopying, scanning and faxing,” Leon said.

“We used to need one machine to photocopy documents, one machine to scan, and one machine to print. These days, we have the capability to combine several functions into one single piece of equipment.

“It is not only a great way to cut down on resource wastage, but these advanced all-in-one printers are also designed to decrease energy consumption by going into ‘sleep mode’ when they are not in use, which is great for the environment.

“In addition to energy saving capabilities, having one machine operational instead of many saves on power and floor space.”

Green all in one printers and copiers

“Yes, there is such a thing and they are great for your business and the environment,” Leon said.

“Look for brands that are built using recycled components and emit lower emissions. Do your research and purchase from businesses that are also responsible sustainable corporate citizens.

“At Printech, we source the most suitable printers for our clients to meet their needs. We actively look for products that are developed by eco-friendly designers and manufacturers and that reduce energy consumption and minimise greenhouse gas emissions.

“Many printers and copiers utilise eco-friendly ink cartridges that have a low-melt toner composition, which saves 20 percent more power than older generation toners. As green technologies continue to evolve and become more advanced, Printech will continue to deliver more environmentally friendly hardware and printing and copier solutions to offices and businesses.”

Sustainable printing practices

“While it’s probably impossible for most businesses to go completely paperless, there are many things that you can do to be more environmentally friendly in your everyday work processes,” Leon said.

“Firstly, print on both sides of the page. Sometimes people can get confused about how to load paper correctly so that the print job comes out the right way, so they take the easy way out and just print on one side all the time.

“Take the time to learn all about your technology and place clear signs around the printer so everyone understands how to use it in an optimal way. Double-sided printing drastically reduces your paper usage and it’s probably one of the handiest things that workers should be doing but often don’t.

Going green

“Many workers are already doing their best to be as eco-friendly as possible, and they should be commended for that. Offices need to do their part and equip their offices with more advanced all-in-one printers that not only get the job done, but also reduce their impact on the environment. Being eco-friendly is not a one-sided approach, it needs to be a combined effort,” Leon said.
