Things to Watch Out for As Party Season Approaches

  • Written by NewsServices.com

With the party season fast approaching, most office talk will be on the up-and-coming party, especially after another year where the pandemic has affected our social lives.

When attending a workplace party where alcohol will be flowing, and there will be numerous people and not just immediate work colleagues, there must be some level of decorum put in place. The thought of turning up at the office and facing everyone who has seen your actions or heard your words should you let yourself slip could be a whole new level of personal or professional embarrassment for you.

Dressing correctly

When attending a work event, regardless if it is just with other colleagues or whether it involves valued customers, it is important to get the dress code right. It is easy to be or feel overdressed or, for that matter, understated to the point of embarrassment. Getting it spot-on can be a difficult measure.

It is, however, very important to feel totally comfortable within your chosen outfit. With colleagues all around, the last thing you want to do is make a show and be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Alcohol or something stronger

It is important that you work out how you are going to get to and from your workplace party. The best bet is to either get a cab or car share if the venue is too far to walk to. However, this is not always necessary, and it is often that you will find yourself having to either be the driver of the car share or just drive yourself.

In these cases, it is a good idea to stay well away from any offered alcohol, although peer pressure can be great. Of course, in these cases, it is a good idea to bin the idea of driving home and either catch a cab or book a hotel for the night.

If you should find yourself over the legal limit, behind the wheel of your car, and in the focus of the local highway police, the best thing you can do is to obtain the details of a reputable and experienced DUI attorney. The worst thing you can do is to try and represent yourself.

An experienced DUI attorney will be able to build a case for you and represent you in court and be able to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

General behavior

General behavior to your colleagues and to valued customers, if they are attending, should be kept in check. Regardless of how you feel personally towards any one of your colleagues, you must remember that they have a right to be there and enjoy themselves too.

Being abusive, or for that matter, lustful, are not the correct response to anyone, and the excuse that there has been alcohol or a more toxic element consumed is not good behavior.

You may feel that everyone is there to let their hair down, and although there are many office party stories to be told of inappropriate behavior, you don’t really want any of them to be about you.
