Innowell Appoints Dr. Melanie Turner as Chief Clinical Officer

Dr. Turner to Lead Clinical Strategy and Chair Innowell’s Clinical Advisory Council 

Innowell, the world’s leading decision support platform for mental health professionals, is proud to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Melanie "Mel" Turner as its new Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), underscoring the company's dedication to clinical excellence and strong governance in mental healthcare. A renowned child-adolescent psychiatrist and Clinical Associate Professor, Dr. Turner brings a wealth of experience in psychiatry, medical administration, and education to the Innowell team.

"Mel adds breadth and depth of knowledge to our team, and we are excited to have someone of her calibre helping us fulfil our mission to unlock and improve mental healthcare outcomes for everyone," said Innowell's Chief Executive Officer Syed Ahmed. It’s important that we have a Chief Clinical Officer who provides the clinicians’ voice and expertise, helps us continue to ground our innovation in frontline healthcare delivery, and drives thought leadership through conversations in the mental health community here in Australia and globally." 

As CCO, Dr. Turner will lead Innowell's clinical strategy and operations, ensuring that the company's innovative digital mental health solutions are effectively integrated into clinical practice. She will also chair Innowell’s Clinical Advisory Council, fostering collaboration and guiding the company on clinical matters. 

Dr. Turner, Chief Clinical Officer, Innowell said, “Innowell is an opportunity to do something new and genuinely impactful when it comes to the provision of mental health care, not just in Australia but around the world. 

The industry has done things the same way for too long and struggles with a familiar set of challenges around equal access and provision of precious mental healthcare resources. Innowell’splatform looks to tackle a lot of these challenges and make meaningful progress, whilst improving the quality of communication between practitioners involved in patient care.” 

Dr. Turner holds university degrees in Applied Science and Medicine, a PhD in Perinatal Psychiatry from the University of Adelaide, and postgraduate qualifications in Health Management and Medical Administration. 

She brings a diverse range of experience to her appointment, currently also holding the followingpositions: 

  • Deputy Chief Psychiatrist at the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist of South Australia 

  • Board Member of the Medical Board of South Australia 

  • Elected Board Director of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists 

  • Board Director at Mental Health Australia 

  • Presiding Member of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board in South Australia 

Dr. Turner is involved in a range of Australian state and federal projects related to pathways for people with autism to enter healthcare, as well as roles reviewing medical education accreditation. 

She is published in peer-reviewed journals and teaches medical students and trainee psychiatrists at the University of Adelaide. She has previously won RANZCP awards for her research projects and recently won a Churchill Fellowship for her Churchill report reviewing non-emergency department interventions for those in mental health crises, which is available for download here.
