Online Christmas shoppers fund climate and biodiversity projects via HealthPost's Click Sphere for Good initiative


Online shoppers with HealthPost’s Flora & Fauna have made 11,000 contributions towards climate and biodiversity projects when ordering parcel deliveries in the lead up to Christmas.

The tool, launched in September, lets shoppers view an estimate of their delivery-related emissions, while Flora & Fauna automatically adds a small climate contribution at checkout.

Customers can choose to add an additional low-cost contribution that aids the Sunnyside Permanent Planting Project, a verified climate project supporting native ecosystems in south-west Western Australia.

Since the launch there has been over 11,000 contributions when customers order parcel deliveries, roughly equivalent to the yearly carbon uptake of several hundred trees, or the emissions from approximately 31,000 km of driving.

With holiday shopping now peaking, climate contributions are expected to rise dramatically. Last year, Australia Post recorded 103 million parcel deliveries from November through Christmas, highlighting the potential scale for impact if more retailers adopt the tool.

How it works: At checkout, customers see an estimate of delivery emissions, which is calculated in real-time based on their order contents, address and shipping method. Flora & Fauna automatically make a climate contribution to match this amount, while customers can choose to add an additional low-cost contribution that supports a verified climate project. Retailers can implement the feature using the Click Sphere for Good app for Shopify.
