MR Roads named Queensland Finalist in the 2025 Telstra Best of Business Awards

MR Roads, co-founded by Daniel Mikus and James Rolph, has been announced as a Queensland finalist in the prestigious 2025 Telstra Best of Business Awards, recognised in two categories: Indigenous Excellence and Outstanding Growth.

The recognition cements MR Roads’ position as one of the fastest-growing and most innovative road infrastructure and civil construction businesses in Australia. In less than a decade, the company has grown from a start-up into a national player, delivering hundreds of millions of dollars in road and civil projects and employing a rapidly expanding workforce across Queensland and beyond.

At the heart of MR Roads’ growth is a commitment to innovation. The company recently launched MR Roads Tech, a proprietary AI-powered platform that revolutionises the way the business costs, manages operations and delivers road infrastructure projects across the country. By harnessing predictive analytics, granular insights and real-time data, MR Roads Tech is helping the business to achieve efficiencies, reduce risk, improve outcomes and enhance long-term sustainability.

The technology is considered a game-changer for the industry. A white label version is being rolled out to enable organisations across the sector and other industries to embrace the benefits of AI assisted operations.

Being named a finalist in both Indigenous Excellence and Outstanding Growth is not just recognition of where we’ve come from, but of where we’re heading,” MR Roads, cofounder, Daniel Mikus said.

We’re building an organisation that is defined by leadership, innovation and community impact. MR Roads Tech is an innovation driver, not only for us, but for the entire infrastructure sector.

Our asphalt plant in Maryborough is also a shining example of our commitment to innovation.”

The MR Roads asphalt plant is a state-of-the-art facility designed to deliver high-quality, sustainable road surfacing solutions at scale. Built with advanced recycling technology, the plant produces premium asphalt using reclaimed materials, significantly reducing waste and emissions. Its high-capacity, automated systems ensure consistency, efficiency and cost savings for major infrastructure projects. By combining innovation with environmental responsibility, the MR Roads asphalt plant is setting new standards in the industry and supporting Australia’s transition to greener, smarter road networks.
“MR Roads invested $20 million into the new state-of-the-art asphalt manufacturing facility in Maryborough and we are focusing on recycled bitumen technology and sustainable asphalt production.”

Cofounder James Rolph added: “Our growth has been built on more than just projects. It’s about investing in people, building leadership across our teams and embedding Indigenous engagement and sustainability into everything we do. This recognition highlights the values and vision that underpin MR Roads.”

The Telstra Best of Business Awards shine a spotlight on the nation’s most ambitious enterprises. For MR Roads, being named a finalist is confirmation that the company is leading the way in redefining how infrastructure can be delivered, smarter, faster and with lasting community value.
