Central Element takes out two top gongs at UDIA Awards

Independent Sydney property developer Central Element (CE) were victorious at the coveted Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Awards for Excellence. CE won across two categories, awarded at the UDIA NSW and Coronation Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner, held on Friday 4 August 2023 at The Star Sydney.

As further recognition for the company as a major player in delivering quality properties to the NSW market, CE walked away from the night with two awards, with Anden Coogee taking top place in both the Medium Density Development and Design categories. Their Balmoral Collection in Mosman was also nominated in the Design and Retirement Living categories and Ethos Chatswood for Marketing.

Sarah Boland, Development Manager at Central Element accepted the awards on behalf of the project’s wider team and said, “Taking out the award in two of the four categories we were nominated in is a reflection of the tireless work and dedication of our exceptional team and our valued partners MHNDU, Lawless & Meyerson, Dangar Barin Smith and Ultra Building Co. Our team has doubled in size over the past two years, and it is thanks to the support across the board that enabled our specific project teams to excel. It is also thanks to our highly regarded and trusted design and build teams that we continue to deliver on our promise to build exceptional living spaces in enviable locations that exceed expectations time and time again.”

The winner in the Medium Density Development category sponsored by Apollo Joinery Group, Anden is a boutique collection of 15 luxury lifestyle residences. Consisting of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom penthouses, Anden boasts inspiring green spaces including a communal garden with cabbage tree palms and is ideally located in the beachside Sydney suburb of Coogee. Completed earlier this year, the design is the result of an extraordinary collaboration between independent Sydney property developer Central Element and partners MHNDU, Lawless & Meyerson, and Dangar Barin Smith. Judges’ comments included praise for the careful design that retained the celebrated art deco streetscape – a prominent feature of the Coogee Art Deco Walking Tour, and sustainable features such as its photovoltaic panels, solar access, rainwater collection systems, and that open stairwell promote eco-friendliness.

Anden Coogee again took home the prize for excellence in Design sponsored by Blacktown City Council, where The Balmoral Collection Mosman was also a finalist. Judges recognised Anden’s harmonious design that weaves together the striking original art deco architecture of the former 1930’s block with a new sustainable build. The development was proclaimed a prime example of biophilic design promoting a greener and healthier way of life, with its central focus the communal garden that unfolds through a series of tiered lawns, complete with fitness floor, yoga space and infrared sauna. Individual residences feature generous flowing living spaces that seamlessly spill to sun-drenched terraces or private garden courtyards along with state-of-the-art automation and AV technology.

In addition to the wins, CE’s boutique seniors living development The Balmoral Collection was also a finalist in the Retirement Living and Design categories, while Ethos Chatswood, a collection of 49 ultra-luxury residence, and 1,200sqm of retail and commercial space in the heart of the eclectic North Shore suburb, was nominated for excellence in Marketing.

CE is a privately owned company with a multi-billion dollar portfolio of luxury developments including residential, mixed-use and lifestyle precincts, having delivered over 500 residences to the Sydney property market. Looking to the future, the company has a number of exciting projects in the works for 2023 and beyond. The DAs were recently approved for the highly anticipated world-class mixed-use 271 Elizabeth Street Hyde Park and the company’s first Inner West project, the rare luxury waterfront site of Bianca Drummoyne. Construction will also continue at Pienza Neutral Bay, and the team will continue to preserve and celebrate the story of the heritage listed Ballamac House Coogee and the West Olympia Theatre in Paddington as it transforms into a leading lifestyle precinct.
