It's no surprise that people are always on the lookout for new and exciting roads to travel and spend an active holiday. However, there are some destinations that are often overlooked. Have you ever heard of Vorarlberg? If not, it's time to discover this region and plan a trip to explore its stunning mountain passes.

What should you know about a trip to Vorarlberg?

Vorarlberg, also known as The Ländle, is the westernmost federal state in Austria and is located in the four border regions of Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Its stunning location between Lake Constance and the Arlberg mountains offers visitors a plethora of breathtaking sights to behold. 

The region is a haven for motorcyclists, as its winding roads with hairpin turns every few meters make for an exhilarating journey. The well-maintained routes, combined with the alpine landscapes, make this spot the perfect starting point for exploration.

However, it's important to note that to preserve the natural beauty of the area, certain parts of the routes have restrictions on noise production from motorbikes. Specifically, any bikes with noise levels over 95db are not allowed on these parts of the routes. A visit to  Scheidegger Wasserfälle

One of the first things to do when exploring Vorarlberg is to visit the Scheidegger Wasserfälle, which is located at a distance of 219 kilometres if you take the short route, or 323 kilometres if you choose the longer one. It is advisable to start the journey towards Andelsbuch, passing through valleys and mountains.

On the way, you can enjoy riding on winding and narrow roads, such as the one that crosses Bergenzeracht. After covering a distance of about 85 kilometres, you need to cross the border with Germany and then ride straight to the Scheidegger Wasserfälle. On your way back, you can visit Scheidegg and ride a steep route up the Oberjoch, which is located at an altitude of 1,178 metres.

Admire the Silvretta reservoir 

Choose the journey to Silvretta Reservoir to see the highest point - one of the most impressive lakes in the Tyrolean Alps. You can start the journey by reaching the peak of Furkajoch located at 1,761m. The next point of the trip is Bludenz, and the Montafon mountains. The total number of kilometres of the route is 220 km, or 281 in a longer version.

The Stelvio Pass as a must-visit destination

The route to the pass is famous for its 48 sharp hairpin bends that change altitude significantly, providing riders with a unique experience. Visiting both Stelvio Pass and the tax-free state of Samnaun will require a lot of effort, as you will need to ride over 400 kilometres in a single day. It is also worth visiting the Reschen Pass, which features a beautiful lake and church tower rising from the water. The lake was artificially created and the village that once stood there is now submerged.
