Demand for Home Batteries surges as Federal Rebate Kicks In

  • Written by Business Daily Media

A leading provider of energy solutions VoltX Energy has seen a 400% increase in demand for home batteries in the past three weeks as people put down deposits to take advantage of the federal government rebate and reduce the risk of installation blowouts.
From July 1, households can access a federal rebate of about $10,000 for new solar battery installations up to 30kWh. In addition, VoltX Energy is offering a $3,000 rebate of its own, reducing the cost of its flagship VoltX Neovolt system to $5920 to make it one of the most affordable home batteries on the market.
“A home battery will cut energy bills by up to 90 per cent allowing homes to capture, store and use their own energy, removing the need for electricity from the grid,” said VoltX Energy Chief Operating Officer David Sedighi.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for households to reduce their energy bills so that’s why we are offering an immediate $3,000 rebate of our own.
“With a typical 30kWh home battery, households should be able to get their investment back in under two years,” he said
Since the federal rebate announcement, VoltX Energy has seen substantial increases in home battery sales across various states - Queensland 390% increase, South Australia seeing a 315% increase and New South Wales a 160% spike.
“We are forecasting 160,000 new household battery installations will occur across Australia in the next 12 months, signalling a pivotal shift towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
“People have been waiting a long time for such a big rebate with many locking it in now amid concerns the increased demand could see a shortage of installers, post July 1.”
“Charging solar panel owners who send their excess electricity back to the grid during peak times is just another cost households can least afford but those with a battery can utilise that extra power themselves.”
Analysis by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water shows a household with existing rooftop solar could save up to $1,100 off their power bill every year, and a household installing a new solar and a battery system could save up to $2,300 a year – up to 90 per cent of a typical family electricity bill.
"Battery storage is essential for Australia’s transition to renewable energy. It allows households to store excess solar power, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering carbon footprints. This is a critical step towards a sustainable future,” Mr Sedighi said.
